Adrian Mutu has agreed terms over a new four-year contract with Fiorentina.
The Romania striker enjoyed a spectacular season last campaign, displaying the kind of form that had seen him added to several clubs' wish-lists.
According to reports, Schalke had been prepared to break the bank to tempt the 29-year-old to move to Germany.
There was also talk of a rift between Fiorentina and Mutu, with the player said to be unhappy with his salary.
But all speculation about his future has now been dispelled by the news he will stay in Florence for the next four years.
A statement on the club's official website, acffiorentina.it, confirmed the contract extension with a slight increase in wages and the prospect of performance-related bonuses. |

Daniele De Rossi has signed a four-year contract extension with Serie A giants Roma.
The deal will keep the Italian international at Stadio Olimpico until the summer of 2012.
The 24-year-old has spent his entire career with his hometown club and is widely tipped to inherit the club captaincy when Francesco Totti retires.
De Rossi had been holding out for a long-term offer and will be delighted to have resolved the issue surrounding his future.
The deal is thought to be worth in the region of 31million euros (£24.5m), split into instalments which increase the longer he remains at the club.
With De Rossi now tied down for the foreseeable future, Roma are expected to begin discussions with his fellow midfielder Alberto Aquilani. (skysports) |

Sunderland veteran Dwight Yorke has ended doubts about his future by signing a new one-year contract.
Yorke had been considering his options and the former Sydney FC midfielder had been linked with a return to Australia.
However, the 36-year-old admits it was 'easy' to extend his association with the club after making 20 appearances in the Premier League last season.
"It has been a tremendous two years for me at Sunderland," Yorke told the club's official website |
