The Netherlands became a favourite to win the European Championship, routing France 4-1 following an opening 3-0 victory over Italy.
The Dutch romped past both 2006 World Cup finalists, joining Portugal and Croatia in the quarter-finals. Substitute Arjen Robben set up one goal and scored another against the French on Friday night, and Robin van Persie, Dirk Kuyt and Wesley Sneijder also scored.
